Trending Violence in Our Communities
The Alliance Against Workplace Violence monitors and reports on trends in workplace and community violence to keep our members informed and prepared.
Understanding the Trends
Workplace violence takes many forms, from verbal threats and harassment to physical assaults and, in the most extreme cases, homicide. Understanding these trends is essential for developing effective prevention strategies.
Types of Workplace Violence
- Type 1 - Criminal Intent: The perpetrator has no legitimate relationship with the business and usually commits a crime in conjunction with the violence (robbery, trespassing).
- Type 2 - Customer/Client: The perpetrator is a customer, client, patient, or someone who has a legitimate relationship with the business.
- Type 3 - Worker-on-Worker: The perpetrator is a current or former employee who attacks another employee.
- Type 4 - Personal Relationship: The perpetrator has a personal relationship with an employee (domestic violence entering the workplace).
Prevention Starts with Awareness
By staying informed about trends in workplace violence, organizations can better prepare themselves to prevent incidents before they occur. The Alliance provides regular updates and analysis to help members stay ahead of emerging threats.
